Children should not have to grow up in shacks which let in rain, insects and snakes. In line with Lert Sa Wat’s aim of giving children the chance of a better future, Lert Sa Wat has joined with the poorest families to help them build a simple, safe home.

It will look something like this…
This family is very happy with their new home. Lert Sa Wat has a waiting list and the family with the greatest need will be next.
How it works
A family with one or more children in the Project applies to Lert Sa Wat.
Lert Sa Wat assesses their need and willingness to work in partnership. The family must have their own land.
When it is time to start building, the family must lay the foundations themselves at their own expense. If the family can afford it, they put in the wooden posts for the structure and pay for the roof.
When completed, Lert Sa Wat orders and pays for the materials. Money is not given to the family. It is done cheaply (e.g. instead of buying ready mix concrete, families are given the cheaper option where they mix their own). The cost varies depending on the cost of materials and the exchange rate from pounds to Thai Baht. Unfortunately, the rate has gone down considerably since Summer 2015. Currently the cost of building a safe home for a family is £1,500.
The family, relatives, neighbours, Lert Sa Wat staff and members of Sikhiu church help with the mixing of the cement and the building of the house.
Once completed, the family donates food they grow or their time to help Lert Sa Wat at major functions like the Christmas party for over 200 children.
